The Origin of Perfume

Where did perfume come from and who were the first wholesale perfumers?

Perfume first came about in ancient times by burning incense with other woods then mixing with oils. The fragrance of this smoke was used to gain goodwill from the gods. The Bible also mentions perfume, although it was actually the burning of incense and only used for religious ceremonies and rituals. Priests were the only ones allowed to burn incense in ancient times . As Civilization progressed, the wealthy and influential people who had access to perfume began using it for personal reasons, scenting the skin and clothing, and the priests gave others the right to use perfumes for non religious purposes. The process slowly made its way to the ordinary people. The Egyptians taught the rest of the world how to make perfume. They are also credited with the first fancy bottles and began the trade of wholesale perfume.

Ancient Greeks used flowers, herbs, plants and leaves to create wholesale perfumes to attract the Gods attention and favoritism . They buried perfumes in their tombs thinking it would help them get into heaven. And they even used it as an embalming fluid. Being spiritually clean, they thought if they covered themselves in perfumes the gods would be even more pleased. Hieroglyphics show stories about finding incense trees and using perfumes in gatherings.

The Egyptian & Roman people learned to use the scented oils to protect their skin from the sun to promote skin care. Egyptians also used perfume and spices to preserve bodies and give them a pleasant smell at death. King Tut's tomb was adorned with perfume filled pots. Another well known Egyptian user of wholesale perfume is Cleopatra who soaked her boat sails in rosewater.

The well known Greek/Roman bath-pool rituals began and perfumes were then added to their bath waters. This was the beginning of creams and moisturizers.

Greeks are also credited with creating today's liquid wholesale perfumes by including atomic spices that preserved the oils and prolonged the fragrance. Oils had been used for many years before perfume was even created to protect the skin.

In today's world, people still use perfumes to feel better about themselves ... to smell good and be more desirable and attractive to the opposite sex. You can now buy craft kits and use concentrated oils to make new fragrances that react to your own PH balance.
